To participate in any of these certification activities, please fill out the In-Service Activity Request Form to obtain approval from your supervisor.   All activities may be taken as independent study 2-credit in-service activities or for 10-hour modules. 

 

Instructional Design and Planning, Requirement 50

 

This course focuses on the development of course outcomes, which identify performance expectations, development of performance assessment strategies, creation of a learning plan, and analysis of the relationship between a course and an occupational program.  Participants will design a performance-based course of study.

Philosophy of Vocational, Technical, and Adult Education, Requirement 51

 

This certification learning activity introduces students to the history and philosophy of the Wisconsin Technical College System.  Participants explore the WTCS from a national, local, and state perspective; review the legal responsibilities of districts and the state board; and analyze current issues impacting Wisconsin.

Teaching Methods, Requirement 52

 

This is an introductory course in the selection and use of teaching methods.  Included are basis for selecting a method, skills/strategies/techniques, factors in making effective use of a method, effective use of questioning, and effective use of audiovisual aids.  The participant demonstrates knowledge and skill by making instructional presentations using various teaching methods and critiquing effectiveness of use of methods used by the individual or by others.

Educational Psychology of the Adult Learner, Requirement 53

 

The student will be able to apply educational/psychological principles to the teaching/learning process to provide the basis for improvement in instruction and

learning of adults and to analyze the impacts of age and individual differences on the

teaching and learning process when presented with human behavior and teaching or learning situations.

Educational Evaluation, Requirement 54

 

Prepares instructors and trainers to design and implement the performance assessment component of a course.  Places emphasis on the development of criterion-referenced performance assessment strategies, the application of varied assessment formats, and the use of assessment strategies for a course of study, create varied assessment tools, and prepare an assessment rationale.

The student will be able to describe the philosophy, function, and referral process of student services in the WTCS; relate the importance of guidance as an integral part of the teacher’s role; apply the skills of listening, reflecting, and clarifying in the classroom setting; provide career counseling using local resources available; and describe how the teacher can assist the guidance counselor(s) in solving the problems of students.

Supervision, Requirement 58

 

Prepares practicing or aspiring leaders and supervisors of instructional staff in the WTCS to provide effective leadership of the planning, design, implementation, evaluation and marketing of learning opportunities and other related services. Emphasis on contributions to a learning college and team environment. Participants evaluate models and share best practices in their leadership role and overall responsibility of coordination of the delivery of quality learner-centered products and services. Participants will differentiate the roles of leader and manager and grow to appreciate followers and their professional and personal growth. Strategies for the optimization of human and financial resources and

 

 

 

 

compliance with laws, policies and procedures will also be addressed. Successful completion of WTCS Wisconsin Leadership Development Institute (WLDI) may substitute for this course.

This certification-learning plan focuses on teaching diverse student populations.  Participants will study a variety of student populations and design learning environments that meet their specific needs.  Participants will also examine prejudice and sexual harassment and their impact in the classroom.
